Art Gallery of NWT again parked by Down to Earth Gallery in Yellowknife's Old Town - this time with a show titled Waterways/Waterworks - featuring local artist Alison McCreesh and Yukon based artist Kimberly Edgar; two artists who work with illustration and who are exploring new ways of working.
From Kimberly's statement: "My current phase of work observes the complex experience of negotiating chronic illness, and conflates these with experiences of anthropogenic climate change... these pieces are elegy for the land and for my body.
Alison's new series is about movement and memory. Each piece is akin to a page in a book, depicting ethereal, shifting figures painted in watercolour. The background of each is a cyanotype print of a circumpolar community (Alison frequently travels the world's circumpolar regions as part of her art practice).
